In order to achieve consistency in coils in coil-basketry, it is useful to have a gauge. Here I will demo how to make a bone gauge out of the humerus (arm-bone) of a turkey wing.
You will need:

hollow or hollowed out bone the desired diameter
cutting tool - like sharp stone, serrated knife, hack-saw, etc...
sandpaper or sandstone (optional)
With primitive hand-tool be sure to gently score the bone, then gradually increase the pressure as you cut a groove. For cylindrical objects, rotate the tube as you score/cut into it. Use sand-stone or sand paper to clean up any rough edges.
